Registry Clean and Repair

It is not uncommon to receive winsock or winsock2 errors on your Windows operating system (XP or Vista).

Winsock is one of the many core elements that you need for your PC to work properly. Actually, if your winsock becomes corrupted, you can still use the PC – it’s just that your networking and internet capability will be broken. That might not have mattered 15 years ago but today a PC without an internet connection is almost useless!

Why Does It Get Corrupted?

The problem with the Windows registry is bad design from the beginning. Any program that you install or uninstall can let itself loose all over the registry and do what it wants. If the program was poorly designed then it may accidentally corrupt winsock and you will get some kind of related error message.

Luckily, there is a way to solve the problem, in fact there are two:

• Depending on your version of Windows, you can fix it using the netsh administrative command. Remember, this is a text-based utility so if you have no experience with the “command line”, you may not get very far. You also need to change some other registry keys and there is a high chance that you have to reinstall TCP/IP which is part of the very core of the operating system. Clearly, do not try any of the above unless you are an expert!
• Alternatively, a much easier way to fix this registry error and all others is to use a registry cleaner program. These will clean your registry of corrupt keys, empty keys, redundant information and anything else which is basically slowing down your PC and/or causing error messages.
